Architectural Elements Simplified

Too frequently when "architectural elements" are mentioned, the inference conveys moldings, doors, columns, or some design element that weighs as much as it costs. However, every room, no matter how simple, can benefit from inexpensive and easy architectural solutions. When both budget and space are tight, pedestals instantly define a space. They are available in a myriad of finishes, but the most versatile are simple columns in black or white. Once a large vessel such as a huge terra cotta urn or an unusual large vase with a few branches is placed on the pedestal, the space is instantly defined in a sculptural form. It is that large, simple visual element that immediately gives the room "bones", "definition," and "architecture". Additionally, it is the creativity of finding unusual solutions such as this that make a room truly memorable.
