Travel Secret: Stay Home

The bottom continues to fall. We think we can't go any lower and things cannot possibly get worse...and then they do. So how much are people traveling for leisure right now? Not so much. And so my secret is to just stay home. Explore. Do all the things you say you want to do, but never have time to do. Go to a new part of your city and feel like a tourist. Eat at restaurants you've heard about, but haven't been to. Go to museum exhibits. Build a fire, curl up with books you've intended to read, but haven't gotten to, and drink mulled cider. Or invite people over for coffee, tea, and dessert. Take long walks. Make plans with people you don't see very often, but would like to see more frequently. Volunteer and put yourself in a new situation. Soon your home town will be a very new place to you with different faces and feelings.

It doesn't matter where you live, or how long you've lived there: there is always the potential to see your home town in a different light. So go out. Go visit your home. Enjoy the holidays. After all, isn't the best part about traveling when you get to return home to your own bed?
