Extraordinary Detail: Textiles at The Met

One of the most incredible museum exhibits ever curated is currently on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. "Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade 1500-1800" is among the most remarkable exhibitions I've ever seen of any genre at any museum. From 17th and 18th century English and European silks to 16th century Indian and Chinese pieces to 19th century printed cottons and spanning all continents, the textiles are staggering in composition and execution. When we consider the extraordinary detailed stitching combined with the lack of lighting, that these were all made by hand, and the inferiority of needles, it becomes even more overwhelming. If you are in NYC over the holidays, by all means take the time to see this exquisitely curated exhibit.
