Go Green: Wear Recycled Rubber

No pun intended: rubber is gaining traction in the fashion industry. Every day new products debut on the market, and while some will not make it, others are definitely worth considering.

My favorite new rubber product is made by Keds. The new sneaker is almost identical to the original Keds shoe, but it's GREEN. The canvas is made from 100% organic cotton; the beefy sole is made from 20% recycled rubber; and the shoe laces are made from recycled PVC. The shoes come in several bright colors, and retail for $55.00 as opposed to the regular Keds shoe for $35.00. They are available at www.keds.com.

Another product that's been on the market for a while is the rubber purse. There are some really fun and fashionable versions and then there are some clunkers. However, I like the rubber tote from uncommon goods because it's made from 100% recycled tires with a recycled seat belt as a shoulder strap. It's roomy and indestructible. It retails for $99.00 at www.uncommongoods.com.
